The French Way is the xacobean itinerary with more historical tradition, being the most internationally recognized, thanks to the constructive work and promotion of monarchs like Sancho III the Greatest, Sancho Ramírez of Navarra and Aragón, Alfonso VI and his successors. This is by far the most famous route, the busiest, the most typical one of the best signposted.

St. Jean Pied de Port is a beautiful French town where the three great Jacobean pathways converged within the French territory, from Paris, Le Puy and Vecelay. This pilgrim town of great tradition retains a fortified citadel on top of the hill, which was built in 1628, and an old town situated on its skirt, which is worth a visit.
Roncesvalles is considered with O Cebreiro, mythical places of the Camino of Santiago.. If you start the Camino in France you get to the city descending the port of Ibañeta. Roncesvalles or the “valley of Santiago” represents the begining of the “Stars way” and has been witneess of great events through its long history.
Roncesvalles is the gateway to Spain for the “French Way”, once you pass the pyrinees.
This Navarre village is really well known because the “Chanson de Roland”
Pamplona is the first capital of the xacobean way for the pilgrims who startes the way in Roncesvalles.
This city has the traces of its rich past with an incredibles cultural offer. You can’t miss its medieval streets, walls, gardens, squares and corners. This is the town of the "Running of Bulls-San Fermin", one of the most famous events in all the country.
Logroño is the capital of La rioja, one the main cities where the camino makess its marrk on countless monuments.
Leon is one of the major cities of the Way. Noted for its monuments, such as the XII century Gothic Cathedral, with its spectacular stained glass windows, the Basilica of San Isidoro with incredible frescoes (Romanesque Sistine Chapel), the Pantheon of the Kings, and the Parador Hostal San Marcos, which was built as a hospital for pilgrims.

The Jacobean pilgrimage from Portugal has its heyday when Portugal became independent in the XII century, even though it is believed to have started in the high medieval period. From this time, the Jacobean cult and the peregrination to Compostela, are considered one of the signs of European culture identity, having an important projection on Portugal. The second most popular route and well signposted.
Tui is the gateway to Spain for the “Portuguese Way”, which starts in Lisbon. In Galicia the path continues parallel to the Rias Bajas of Vigo and Pontevedra.
It has a great tradition and is the only route that start in Santiago. Most of the pilgrims when they reach Santiago they continue until “the end of the world” (Finisterre). This route is becoming increasingly popular.
