Camino Santiago on foot: Roncesvalles-Logroño

Itinerary French Way from Roncesvalles (8 days-7 nights-6 stages)

Day 1: Arrival in Roncesvalles. Accommodation.
Day 2: Roncesvalles-Zubiri Stage (22.14 kms)
Difficulty: Medium Duration: 5h 30m

This emblematic stage passes through a low mountain area in the shade of numerous forests, which poses no more difficulty than the Highlands of Erro and Mezquiriz. It crosses the villages of Burguete, with its houses "on four waters", and through the roads that circulate through its streets. Next, we find Espinal, another typical village-street of the Camino.

Once crossed the Alto de Erro, we reach Zubiri, capital of the Esteribar Valley, the most populated place on the Camino de Santiago, north of Pamplona.

In this stage we can admire, among other monuments, the Collegiate Church of Roncesvalles, the Chapel of the Sancti Spiritus or «Charlemagne's Silo», The Gothic Cruise of the XIV century, at the exit of Roncesvalles, in Zubiri we will cross the «Rage Bridge»

Saint Jean Pied de Port is the last town in France bordering Spain. Spectacular stage, which starts in the beautiful French town, at the foot of the Pyrenees. Hard stage, but also mythical on the Camino, where his extraordinary views will be his hallmark.

Day 3: Stage Zubiri-Pamplona (20.05 kms)
Difficulty: Low Duration: 5h

Through the valley of Esteribar, we reach Larrasoaña, through small agrarian villages.

We pass successively Irotz, Zabaldica, until arriving at Trinidad de Arre, a beautiful set of the Camino de Santiago in Navarra, formed by the bridge over the Ulzama river. The Trinity was a hospital, shelter and basilica.

From Burlada, you can see Pamplona, which we access by Romanesque bridge of the Magdalena and we enter the city by «Door of France», crossing the wall of it.

We will admire the Cathedral of Pamplona, the city walls, San Cernín fortress church, Ciudadela and Plaza del Castillo, among other monuments of interest.

Day 4: Stage Pamplona-Puente la Reina (23,87 kms)
Difficulty: Low Duration: 6h

After passing through the Alto del Perdón, we will go to Puente la Reina, where the pilgrims will meet at a crossroads with those from Somport and have followed the Aragonese route of the French Way.

In the Alto del Perdón we will find the Monument to the Pilgrim, one of the most significant pictures of the route.

After Obanos, the unavoidable visit is Templar Church of Our Lady of Eunate, octagonal.

In Puente la Reina, highlights the majestic Bridge over the river Arga, the Church of the Crucifix and the Church of Santiago, inside which is the famous carving of «Santiago Beltza»

Day 5: Stage Puente la Reina-Estella (23 Kms)
Difficulty: Low Duration: 5h 45m

Stage that runs without difficulty, through work areas and vineyards.

We leave Puente la Reina, crossing its magnificent bridge and we arrive at Cirauqui, where we can see the Romanesque church of San Román and at the exit of the town, remains of the ancient Roman road with its bridge, with only one eye.

After crossing Lorca and Villatuerta successively, we arrive at Estella.

The most significant monuments of this stage, in addition to those already mentioned, are in Estella Palace of the Kings of Navarre, Church of San Pedro de la Rúa and the Church of San Miguel.

Day 6: Stage Estella-Los Arcos (21,90 kms)
Difficulty: Low Duration: 5h 15m

Like the previous stage, the terrain that we will find is of similar orography.

We will leave Estella, guided by Montejurra and Monjardin Peak.

We will arrive in Iratxe, where the first hospital of pilgrims, dating from the year 958. In addition we can delight with the Source of wine, installed by Bodegas Irache.

In Monjardin, its castle stands out, which crowns the mountain. At the entrance to the village, we can observe the «Fountain of Moors»

In Los Arcos, we highlight the Porticoed square of Santa María with its Romanesque church, as well as the Puerta de Castilla built in the seventeenth century.

Day 7: Stage Los Arcos-Logroño (28 kms)
Difficulty: Low Duration: 7h 15m

Stage of slides and undulating terrain.

The first urban center that we find is Torres del Rio, with its fantastic Romanesque church of the Holy Sepulcher, octagonal, of the twelfth century, inside which we find a carving of the crucified of the thirteenth century.

Next, the spectacular Viana appears, located in a high one, in which its well-preserved wall stands out.

In its urban center, mention the churches of Santa María of the 12th century and of San Pedro.

We enter Logroño, through the great bridge over the Ebro river.

In Logroño, we highlight the Church of Santiago el Real, with his famous Santiago Matamoros on the porch, the Procathedral, with a famous Altarpiece by Miguel Angel and the Plaza de la Oca.

Before arriving at Puente la Reina, you go through one of the Romanesque jewelry more important: Church of Santa María de Eunate. It is believed that it was built in the middle of the twelfth century, Octagonal plant and attributed its membership to the Order of the Temple. Tradition has it that before entering its interior, it must be turned three times and finally placed under the vault to be charged with energy.
