Camino de Santiago from Ferrol to Santiago

The Camino de Santiago from Ferrol, as well as departing from A Coruña became in the XNUMXth century the two main starting points of the Camino Inglés.

Thanks to their strategic situation Scandinavians, Flemish, English, Scottish and Irish used the roads of the sea with great intensity to reach Spain and begin the pilgrimage. The Jacobean pilgrimage had great fame throughout medieval Europe.

We begin our pilgrimage in Ferrol, at the docks of Coruxeiras.

Stage marked by the passage through the most significant places of Ferrol and the proximity of the Ferrol estuary at all times, bordering it to reach Neda and Fene.

Next and very close to the sea, we advance to the Playa de la Magdalena, after crossing its impressive bridge, we reach Puentedeume, with the Torre de los Andrade tribute, the Church of Santiago and the Town Hall, as monuments more highlights.

Arrival to Puentedeume. End of the stage

RECOMMENDATION!!

For those people with little physical preparation or who prefer to perform the stage in a more calm and relaxed way, it would be advisable to divide the stage into two days:

Stage: Ferrol - Neda (15 Kms)

Stage: Neda - Puentedeume (13,5 Kms)

Day 3: Puentedeume – Betanzos Stage (21 kms)
Difficulty: Easy Duration: 5h 15m

Breakfast and start of the stage.

Stage that passes through the interior, with small villages and in constant small ascents and descents, with beautiful sections of tracks and roads, until we reach Miño, the first part of the route, returning again to the sea.

Starting from Miño, we return to the interior, in terrain very similar to the one we took, until we reached the monumental Betanzos, which we access by crossing the Mandeo river through A Ponte Vella.

As significant places, the following stand out: the Church of Santiago, Convent of San Francisco, Church of Santa María de Azogue and the Church of San Domingos.

Arrival to Betanzos. End of the stage

Day 4: Betanzos – Bruma Stage (24,5 kms)
Difficulty: Medium Duration: 7h 30m

Breakfast and start of the stage.

Stage with a predominantly rural environment from which we will no longer see the sea, during all our Way, and the one that presents greater difficulties regarding its orography, mainly in its last third, with the rise A Fontela and A Malata.

In this stage it is possible to emphasize: Church of San Antonio de Cos, and Puente de Presedo.

Arrival in Bruma. End of the stage

Day 5: Bruma – Sigueiro Stage (24,8 Kms)
Difficulty: Easy Duration: 6h 15m

Breakfast and start of the stage.

At this stage, the two roads of the English route meet, the Camino de Santiago from Ferrol, which we are undertaking, and on the other hand, the one that begins in the city of A Coruña.

Stage very similar to the previous one, with a shortage of populated nuclei. Areas of wide groves and paths between mountains, as well as numerous springs.

It highlights the Capela de Bruma, Church of San Paio de Buscás and the Church of San Xiao de Poulo, as well as the Sigueiro Bridge.

Arrival to Sigueiro. End of the stage

Day 6: Sigueiro – Santiago de Compostela Stage (16,5 kms)
Difficulty: Easy Duration: 4h

Breakfast and start of the stage.

Once we cross the Sigueiro Bridge, over the Tambre River, we enter the municipality of Santiago.

The route passes through the “Fonte do Inglés” and the Tambre industrial estate, and then enters Meixonfrio and we are already at the entrance to our desired destination.

Arrival to Santiago de Compostela. End of the road. Accommodation.
