Camino Santiago on foot: A Guarda-Santiago

On the Camino de Santiago from A Guarda each step is accompanied by a soft sea aroma that strengthens the mind and tests the body, heading to Santiago de Compostela. Mountains, valleys, streams and the Atlantic Ocean dot the route. Each curve of the Camino leads us to an even more idyllic landscape than the previous one.

Camino Portugués itinerary from Baiona (9 days-8 nights-7 stages)

Day 1: Arrival at Guarda. Accommodation.
Day 2: Stage A Guarda-Baiona (30 kms)
Difficulty: Medium Duration: 7h 30m

Breakfast and start of the stage.

Completely flat stage, in its first part, which runs parallel to the coast with the Atlantic Ocean as a witness, to go inland, before arriving at the Cabo Silleiro, through Camiño de Portela and the Baredo Mountains, offering breathtaking views of the Oceano and the Cies Islands, before ending in Baiona.

We highlight the fishing village of A Guarda, with its attractive port and the impressive Castro of Santa Tecla (National Historic Artistic Monument, 1st century BC), and its spectacular viewpoint from which we can see the mouth of the river Miño, as well as in Oia, the Monastery of Santa María (12th century)

In Baiona we will be surprised by its spectacular Parador de Turismo (Castle of Montereal) and its splendid historical center.

For those people with little physical preparation or who prefer to perform the stage more calmly and relaxed, It would be advisable to divide the stage in two days:

- Stage: A Guarda - Oia (12 Kms)

- Stage: Oia - Baiona (18 Kms)

Day 3: Stage Baiona-Vigo (24 Kms)
Difficulty: Low Duration: 6h

At the exit of Baiona, we will cross the river Miñor, through the Romanesque bridge of Ramallosa, to enter then the Ría de Vigo. Along the Way we will find numerous Pazos and wooded areas, quite leafy, from which we can observe in the distance the Cies Island, as well as the Cruceiros de Mallón Y O Pereiro.

In the vicinities of Vigo, we will cross the path of the river Lagares, Castrelos Park and the Pazo de Quiñones de León, to finish in Vigo, the most populated city of Galicia.

Day 4: Stage Vigo-Redondela (18.75 Kms)
Difficulty: Low Duration: 4h 30m

One day we left Vigo, the Camino runs parallel to the coast until we reach Redondela, where connects with the Central Portuguese Way.

Very pleasant route, without any difficulty, between wooded areas, through the Path of Traida das Augas.

The most spectacular of this tour are the views of the Vigo estuary, because along the route we can see the Cíes Islands, the Rande Bridge and finally the inlet of San Simón, with your island.

Once in Redondela, we can visit the Ilesis de Santiago (S. XII), the Vilavella Convent (S. XVII) and the House A Tower (S. XVI)

Day 5: Redondela-Pontevedra Stage (19,8 Kms)
Difficulty: Low Duration: 5h

Another stage of great beauty, intense green meadows and with magnificent views over the Vigo estuary.

We will visit numerous places that will be inviting us to stop in them.

At this stage it is worth mentioning the passage through Monte Albor Y Pontecesures.

Among those that stand out Arcadian, with its worldwide famous oysters, as well as Ponte Sampaio, famous for having fought a battle against the French troops, which meant the withdrawal of these in Galicia.

Arrival in Pontevedra. (where, according to tradition, St. Francis of Assisi making the Portuguese Way founded the Convent of San Francisco). End of the stage. Accommodation.

Day 6: Stage Pontevedra-Caldas de Rei (21.9 kms)
Difficulty: Low Duration: 5h 30m

After having visited Pontevedra, with its historical center of great monumental value, as well as its numerous squares, this stage returns to submerge us in the most rural Galicia, with numerous small villages and isolated houses surrounded by areas of abundant vegetation.

We will travel through small paths and paths, until we reach our goal of the Caldas de Rei day, famous for being a thermal villa of first order.

Day 7: Caldas de Rei-Padron Stage (18,5 Kms)
Difficulty: Low Duration: 4h 30m

Short stage and very comfortable. We continue through Galicia without great difficulties, with a terrain that invites us to relaxation and meditation.

Small nuclei of population, numerous cruceiros will appear in our way, mixed with that placid silence that accompanies us since we began our Camino.

Spiritual variant-Translatio

There is the possibility of replacing this stage on foot, by a boat trip that runs from Vilanova de Arousa, by the Arousa River, through the Ulla River to Pontecesures, from where we will return to Padron on foot (2). , 5 km)

Translatio-Translation that, according to the legend, he made the stone boat, with the remains of the Apostle Santiago from Palestine to iria flavia (Padron), together with his two disciples Anastasio and Teodoro.
Day 8: Padron-Santiago de Compostela Stage (24.6 kms)

After our stay in Census and Iria Flavia, places of great Jacobean evocation, according to legend, here the boat ran aground with the remains of the Apostle, coming from Palestine, in a «Pedrón», that is conserved in the cathedral of said city, we are directed to the end of our Way.

Stage, not as spectacular as the previous ones, since we will find many paved roads, and the population centers will no longer be so bucolic.

Despite this, we are in an area where much of the legend of the "translatio" of the Apostle, to Santiago de Compostela.
