Camino Santiago from Tui to Santiago

The Camino de Santiago from Tui to Santiago has precisely this town as the gateway to Spain from Portugal. In Galicia, this layout of the Portuguese Way It runs parallel to the Rías Bajas de Vigo and Pontevedra.

It is a journey that we will make in seven days crossing exuberant landscapes, with numerous rivers and wooded areas. Population centers with as much meaning and architectural beauty as Redondela, Pontesampaio, Pontevedra, Caldas de Rei and Padrón, where according to legend the boat that brought the remains of the Apostle from Palestine.

Itinerary Portuguese Way from Tui (7 days-6 nights-5 stages)

Day 1: Arrival in Tui. Accommodation.
Day 2: Tui-Redondela Stage (31,2 kms)
Difficulty: Medium Duration: 8h

Breakfast and start of the first stage of our Camino de Santiago from Tui.

We start this stage crossing and strolling through the spectacular old town of Tui. We may have visited, among other monuments, the splendid Cathedral of Santa María de Tui, the Church of San Telmo, as well as the International Bridge designed according to the influences of Eiffel.

The route crosses paths and paths through wide wooded areas and numerous water courses. We will cross the Ponte da Veiga, on the Louro river, one of the most characteristic of the route.

On the way to Redondela, we will visit the Pazo de Mos, Cruceiro Os Cabaleiros and the Santiaguiño Chapel.

For those people with little physical preparation or who prefer to perform the stage in a more calm and relaxed way, it would be advisable to divide the stage into two days:

Stage: Tui - Porriño (16,4 Kms)

Stage: Porriño - Redondela (14,8 Kms)

Day 3: Redondela – Pontevedra Stage (19,8 kms)

Another stage of great beauty, intense green meadows and magnificent views over the Vigo estuary.

We will visit numerous places that will be inviting us to stop at them.

It is worth noting at this stage the passage through Monte Albor and Pontecesures.

Among which Arcade stands out, with its world famous oysters, as well as Ponte Sampaio, famous for having held a battle against French troops, which led to the withdrawal of Marshal Ney's troops from Galician lands.

Arrival to Pontevedra. Accommodation.

Day 4: Pontevedra – Caldas de Rei stage (21,9 kms)
Difficulty: Easy Duration: 5h 30m

After having visited Pontevedra, with its historical center of great monumental value, as well as its many squares, this stage immerses us again in the most rural Galicia, with numerous small villages and isolated houses surrounded by areas of abundant vegetation.

We will transit through small roads and trails, until we reach our goal of the day Caldas de Rei, famous for being a first-rate thermal village, and where if the pilgrim wishes, he can enjoy its thermal waters.

Day 5: Caldas de Rei – Padron Stage (18,5 Kms)
Difficulty: Easy Duration: 4h 30m

Short and very comfortable stage. We continue through Galicia without great difficulties, with a terrain that invites us to relaxation and meditation.

Small population centers, numerous cruises will appear on our way, mixed with that placid silence that has accompanied us since we started our Camino de Santiago from Tui.

Arrival to Padron. End of the stage Accommodation.

DID YOU KNOW… in Padrón, below the main altar, is “El Pedrón”, a stone that is said to have been used to tie the boat in which the Apostle Santiago, already dead, was transferred from Palestine to the Galician coast.

Spiritual variant-Translatio

There is the possibility of replacing this stage on foot of the Camino de Santiago from Tui, by a boat trip that runs from Vilanova de arousa, by the ria de arousa, through the ulla river to Pontecesures, from, where we will retake the path, to foot, to Padron (2,5 kms)

Translatio–Translation which, according to legend, made the stone boat, with the remains of the Apostle Santiago from Palestine to iria flavia (Padron), along with his two disciples Anastasio and Teodoro.
Day 6: Stage Padron – Santiago de Compostela (24,6 kms)
Difficulty: Easy Duration: 6h

After our stay in Padrón and Iria Flavia, places of great Jacobean evocation - according to legend, here the boat ran aground with the remains of the Apostle, from Palestine, in a “Pedrón”, which is preserved in the cathedral of that city, we are heading to the end of our Way.

Stage, not as spectacular as the previous ones, since we will find many paved roads, and the population centers will no longer be so bucolic.

Despite this, we are in an area where much of the legend of the "translatio" of the Apostle, to Santiago de Compostela.

Arrival to Santiago de Compostela and end of our Portuguese Way from Tui. Accommodation. If you prefer, as an alternative you can do the Portuguese way along the coast which is very popular.

Day 7: Breakfast – End of our services
