It is surrounded by some of the oldest and best-preserved buildings in Ribadeo, such as the <\/span><b>Torre de los Moreno<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the <\/span><b>Convento de Santa Clara<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and the <\/span><b>Pazo de los Ib\u00e1\u00f1ez<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><b>Torre de los Moreno<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Continuing our visit to Plaza de Espa\u00f1a, right here is the <\/span><b>Torre de los Moreno<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It is <\/span><b>the first indiano building in all of Ribadeo<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, though it is not the only one. It was built by two emigrant brothers <\/span><b>around 1915<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in a <\/span><b>completely eclectic indiano style<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, though it also has some Catalan modernist influences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the time of its construction, it became <\/span><b>the most modern building on the Northern Way<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It is especially striking for its beautiful facade that perfectly combines with the roof, very typical of Central Europe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both the Torre de los Moreno and the centre of Ribadeo were declared <\/span><b>Sites of Cultural Interest<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><b>Pazo de Ib\u00e1\u00f1ez<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Pazo de Ib\u00e1\u00f1ez<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was commissioned by the Marqu\u00e9s de Sargadelos, Raimundo Ib\u00e1\u00f1ez. It is a building in <\/span><b>neoclassical style<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which served as the nobleman&#8217;s residence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In fact, Ib\u00e1\u00f1ez was the great promoter of the town&#8217;s commercial port, as well as the industrialization process of the area, being the founder of the <\/span><b>Royal Sargadelos Ceramic Factory<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Additionally, it is the heart of this beautiful town, which has maintained maritime commercial activity for centuries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Between the <\/span><b>16th and 17th centuries<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the town thrived on the transport of wine, salt, iron, and wood. By the <\/span><b>18th century<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, it reached its peak by opening its connections to the Baltic Sea, where linen, hemp, and spirits were traded.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today, <\/span><b>the port is used solely for recreational purposes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, though it is undoubtedly a must-see if you are walking the Northern Way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><b>Casa do Pat\u00edn<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Located on Muralla Street, named so because here you can see a<\/span><b> section of the old medieval wall<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that still stands in Ribadeo. The Casa do Pat\u00edn is the <\/span><b>oldest civil building in the town<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although there is no exact date for its construction, its facade is the only element that remains unaltered. <\/span><b>It is covered in vegetation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, so from the first moment, you will feel charmed to be here.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You will also see the coat of arms of the Men\u00e9ndez-Navia and Villamil family, important merchants who were involved in the timber trade. As a final detail, you should know that <\/span><b>the house shares its inner courtyard with the Municipal Library<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><b>Barrio de San Roque<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For some, this is the <\/span><b>quintessential indiano area<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of Ribadeo. Around 1870, the first indianos began to return and settled in this place, which at the time was part of the town&#8217;s outskirts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It stands out for its <\/span><b>colourful and landscaped facades<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, built under the architectural influence of American cities like Buenos Aires or Havana.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since 2014, during the first weekend of July, the <\/span><b>Ribadeo Indiano Festival<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is held here. It serves to remember those first Galicians who went to the Americas and returned with large amounts of money.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Both locals and tourists dress in period clothing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with lots of music and traditional cuisine. It is undoubtedly one of the most striking celebrations on the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mundiplus.com\/en\/caminos\/a-pie\/camino-norte\"><b>Northern Way<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><b>La Atalaya de Ribadeo<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just as on the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mundiplus.com\/en\/caminos\/a-pie\/camino-portugues\/camino-de-santiago-desde-tui\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Camino de Santiago through Tui<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, being a town where slopes are prominent, in Ribadeo you have the advantage of finding many <\/span><b>viewpoints with breathtaking views<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The clearest example is La Atalaya.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For centuries, this place has served to guide the navigators of the estuary with torches. In fact, in the 16th century, a <\/span><b>defensive bulwark<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was built here, of which a few cannons still remain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To get here<\/span><b> you can take the panoramic elevator and enjoy the views<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the Puente de los Santos, the estuary, or the Puerto de Porcill\u00e1n.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While Ribadeo stands out with its unique charm on the Northern Way, it is impossible not to think of the richness that characterises other pilgrimage routes, such as the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mundiplus.com\/en\/caminos\/a-pie\/camino-portugues\"><b>stages of the Portuguese Way<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>Playa de las Catedrales<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Playa de las Catedrales, officially known as <\/span><b>Praia de Augas Santas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, is one of the most iconic and spectacular places in Ribadeo. This natural monument, located about <\/span><b>10 kilometres<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> away, is famous for its impressive rock formations that <\/span><b>resemble the arches and columns of a Gothic cathedral<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These formations are the result of wind and water erosion over thousands of years. During low tide, it is possible to walk among these arches and natural passageways, exploring caves and nooks hidden at the base of the cliffs. These structures can <\/span><b>reach up to 30 metres<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in height, creating a unique visual spectacle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each path to Santiago de Compostela offers a unique palette of landscapes, stories, and traditions, reflecting the cultural and natural diversity of the Iberian Peninsula.
