With around <\/span><b>15,000 inhabitants<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, it offers the pilgrim all the necessary services and an interesting historical legacy to discover. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This town was the <\/span><b>birthplace of the powerful Andrade family<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, whose medieval castle \u2014 of which its keep survives \u2014 dominates the urban landscape and has become a National Parador of Tourism. It replaced the old Romanesque temple of the town, as it was completely rebuilt in the second half of the 19th century. The current building, in an eclectic historicist style, was designed by the local architect Manuel Mato Vizoso, who knew the old church in his childhood.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>The Crosses of Vilalba<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vilalba is also known for its <\/span><b>cruceiros<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, emblematic stone crosses typical of Galicia that combine art, spirituality, and popular tradition. Surrounded by a small forest of birch trees, this lagoon, approximately <\/span><b>30 metres in diameter<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, is fed by underground springs whose bubbles continually rise to the surface. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since the 1930s, this place has been adapted as a rustic spa, highly appreciated by locals and visitors for relaxation due to the healing properties of its waters. They are adorned with pinnacles, pointed arches, and sculptures that reflect a love for monumental designs in humble spaces.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><b>Vilalba&#8217;s Gastronomy<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vilalba&#8217;s cuisine is rich and traditional, a true reflection of the agricultural Terra Ch\u00e1 region. It is considered one of the most beautiful routes due to the variety of natural landscapes it offers the pilgrim.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unlike the crowded French Way, it attracts <\/span><b>fewer pilgrims<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, allowing for a more peaceful experience. However, it has a good network of services as it passes through tourist areas, though it is physically <\/span><b>more demanding<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> than other more popular routes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many travellers with less than two weeks opt to walk only a section of this route. For example, the section from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mundiplus.com\/en\/caminos\/a-pie\/camino-norte\/camino-de-santiago-desde-santander\/\"><b>Santander to Gij\u00f3n<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> covers some of the <\/span><b>most attractive coastal landscapes of Cantabria and Asturias<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It offers the essence of the Camino del Norte in a shorter experience.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>What Makes It Different from Other Routes<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Compared to the <\/span><b>Camino Primitivo<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which is also known for its difficulty and authenticity, the Northern Way is <\/span><b>longer with coastal stages<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
