It could be considered part of the millennial pier of Iria Flavia. For this reason, the great transcendence and importance that the city of Padr\u00f3n had, in the first years of pilgrimage, was derived and, in fact, among the pilgrims the following saying was heard: \u201cWhoever goes to Santiago and does not go to Padr\u00f3n, either he does the pilgrimage or not \u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is located under the main altar of the Church of Santiago de Padr\u00f3n, which is located next to the Sar river. In the Middle Ages pilgrims used to climb their steps on their knees, praying in each one of them, hell, heaven and purgatory as they called it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gt-block\">You can reach the town of Padron on foot by doing the Caldas de Rei-Padron stage, or you can do the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mundiplus.com\/en\/blog\/variante-espiritual-del-camino-portugues-la-translatio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">spiritual variant<\/a> with La Translatio by boat, and the last 2,5 km on foot.
