It is a beautiful city that is just 27 kilometers away from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mundiplus.com\/en\/blog\/que-ver-en-logrono\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Logro\u00f1o<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with an impressive cultural heritage and a long historical past.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"gt-block\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In fact, as another interesting fact about N\u00e1jera, you should know that even <\/span><b>one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mundiplus.com\/en\/caminos\/a-pie\/camino-frances\">stages of the French Camino de Santiago<\/a> <\/b><b>It was modified so that it could reach the city<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and thus the pilgrims would know its beauty and charm.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span ><b>A destination with great history<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"gt-block\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">N\u00e1jera, comes from Arabic <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Naxara, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">which translates as a place between rocks and is a very good description of the geographical location of this municipality. Crossed by the Najerilla River, it had its origin during the <\/span><b>pre-roman period<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. However, its maximum splendor occurred <\/span><b>during the Middle Ages when it was granted the name of kingdom.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"gt-block\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As we have already told you, at the beginning <\/span><b>It was not part of the Camino de Santiago route<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. However, the <\/span><b>King Garcia Sanchez<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> He ordered that the route be modified to include it.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"gt-block\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And, according to legend, the sovereign was hunting when his falcon escaped and he had to chase him into the middle of the forest. It became a settlement of Jews who, together with the passage of pilgrims, led the city to a fairly prosperous time. Here the Muslims built a <\/span><b>castle on the hill of La Mota<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, conquered in the year 923 by the king of Pamplona, \u200b\u200bSancho Garc\u00e9s I.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"gt-block\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When the president died, he left the domain in the hands of his son, who after the destruction of the city of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mundiplus.com\/en\/blog\/pamplona-corazon-navarra\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pamplona<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the part of the Muslims, he decided to move his residence to N\u00e1jera. Hence <\/span><b>acquired the name of Kingdom of N\u00e1jera-Pamplona until 1076.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"gt-block\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the middle of this slope, right between the town and the castle, a <\/span><b>fortress that served as a residence for the kings of N\u00e1jera<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and later as <\/span><b>Ducal Palace<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, for the dukes of N\u00e1jera. This last title was created by the Catholic Monarchs for the rulers of the city.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"gt-block\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both buildings were preserved throughout the medieval period, witnessing <\/span><b>royal visits and important battles until the 16th century,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> when they were abandoned.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>Monastery of Santa Mar\u00eda La Real<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"gt-block\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We already told you how its origin was, but you should know that throughout history it was used as<\/span><b> episcopal seat, convent and family mausoleum of the royal family of Pamplona-N\u00e1jera<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In the past they had <\/span><b>function serve as a lair <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for the defense of the population against enemy attacks. Some were excavated artificially, however, they have not been used for several centuries. Here you can enjoy the impressive collection of historical pieces, with objects ranging from <\/span><b>from Prehistory to the Middle Ages.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"gt-block\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Among the pieces that you can see, stand out <\/span><b>Roman and Celtiberian ceramics<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, coats of arms of the old houses of wealthy families, as well as Mudejar tiles that come from the Alc\u00e1zar of N\u00e1jera.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"gt-block\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This museum is located in what was once the <\/span><b>Abbot&#8217;s Palace of the monastery<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, further ahead the monastic apothecary and much further ahead, the town jail.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span ><b>N\u00e1jera and the Camino de Santiago<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"gt-block\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">N\u00e1jera is a mandatory stop on the French route, which is one of the main variants of the route. Pilgrims who follow this route pass through N\u00e1jera on their way to Santiago de Compostela.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"gt-block\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to the already mentioned monastery of Santa Mar\u00eda La Real, N\u00e1jera has a medieval charm with <\/span><b>cobblestone streets and historic architecture<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
