Its name, according to some etymologists, may derive from an ancient \u201c<\/span>Pons Rune<\/b>“, where “Runa” would be the primitive name of the Arga river, linked to Iru\u00f1a, the Basque name of Pamplona. <\/span><\/p>\n

In Basque, the town is known as <\/span>stations<\/b>, a name that was maintained until the end of the 19th century and is currently co-official. The term \u201cPuente\u201d is used colloquially, and its inhabitants are known as Puentesinos\/as or Garestarra in Basque.<\/span><\/p>\n

Geographically, it is located <\/span>in the Valdizarbe valley<\/b>, halfway between Pamplona<\/a> y Estella<\/a>. It is surrounded by a varied geography that includes river terraces and mountains.
