Have you always wanted to make a trip to the Camino de Santiago, but you have doubts about how to do it? Don’t worry, it’s normal future pilgrim!!! Below we answer the main questions before organizing your Camino de Santiago.
During the Middle Ages, hundreds of thousands of pilgrims traveled to Santiago de Compostela from all over Europe. They traveled along what was left of the Roman roads, and other medieval roads. At that time, the Christian kingdoms were fighting against the Muslims, who were giving ground, so that the number of pilgrims flowed more and more to the south, establishing new safe routes on which villas, cities, bridges, temples, castles and cathedrals were founded. There are also routes from Al-Andalus, as there were Mozarabic Christians who made pilgrimages to Santiago.
From Spain, the main pilgrimage route for the Way of St. James is the The French Way, which enters from France via the Spanish town of Roncesvalles. It is followed, in terms of the number of pilgrims who walk through it, by the Portuguese Way.
Other relevant Pilgrims’ Roads to Santiago are, the English Route, the North Road, Primitive Way, Fisterra and Muxia Road and the Camino Portugués Costa among others. However, due to the resurgence of the Camino in recent years, new pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela are being incorporated day by day, although many of them still lack important infrastructures, as is the case of the Vía de la Plata, Camino Aragones and Camino Mozárabe, for example.

The stages of the Way of St. James that you are going to do are planned so that anyone can do them without great difficulty.
We travel through a average of 22 Kms, per stage. A person with a physical preparation a person with an abnormal will travel approximately 4 km per hour. To this we have to add the time we dedicate to breaks or to eat some food.

Starting the Camino de Santiago alone does not mean walking alone to Santiago de Compostela. The same day of your arrival at the beginning of the first stage, at the accommodation, you will meet more pilgrims with whom you can start walking the next day if you wish, and with whom you will meet stage after stage. Groups form spontaneously. All pilgrims are open to meet people and share the incredible Camino experience. This way you can decide who to walk with, by affinity, age, walking pace, etc.
On the Camino you will never be alone. The Camino is safe and well signposted, so you don’t have to worry about any details. The Mundiplus Travel Team will always be at your disposal.
The accommodations we offer our pilgrims for the Camino de Santiago are of the highest quality. Our collaborating establishments are Hotels, Hostels, Pazos, Rural Houses and Hostels with charm and private bathroom. They have the necessary services that will be very useful after the daily stages. All accommodations have been supervised by our experts in terms of comfort, facilities and human treatment.
Most of them are located in the end-of-stage localities themselves. However, in some cases, always looking for the best available option and the best approach to the rural environment, we can transfer you to rural lodgings that are located within a few kilometers radius. The next day, he would rejoin the start of the stage.
As you can choose the date that best suits you to make the trip to the Camino de Santiago, and being mostly accommodations with few rooms, The exact names of the hotels will be provided once you have made a firm booking for the trip. In the different itineraries of the Camino, you will be able to see a selection of photographs of possible accommodations where you will stay, varying according to availability.
In case of doing the Camino de Santiago alone, you will be accommodated in a single room, it is not possible to share a room with other pilgrims.
Our itineraries to do the Camino de Santiago include, along with accommodation and other basic services, breakfast and/or dinner of great quality and variety.
Meals are not included in our routes so that you can walk according to your pace and possibilities, and not set an arrival time that will condition your tour. We recommend that you carry some food en route: sandwiches, energy bars, fruit, water, etc.
In any of the towns along the Camino you will be able to find food stores without any problem. You can also stop and eat something en route or stop at any restaurant at the end of the stage.
Pilgrims with dietary restrictions (vegetarians, vegans, etc.) should inform us in order to take their requests into account. However, you should also let the different lodgings on the Camino know before each meal.
During the stages of your Camino we transfer one piece of luggage, of no more than 20 Kgs per person, from the lodging where you spend the night to the lodging where you will stay in the next stage. With this you can make the route a little more pleasant, avoiding back pain and overloading of the lower extremities (see knees and feet mainly) Luggage, sports bags, backpacks are moved.
If you want us to transport more than one piece of luggage per person, there will be an additional charge. You must inform us of this circumstance before starting your trip.
Upon arrival at your first accommodation on the Camino de Santiago we will provide you with an identification tag, which you should place in a visible place on your luggage.
Luggage must be left at the reception of the accommodation before 8:00 a.m. to proceed with the transfer. Your luggage will be delivered to the next booked establishment no later than 14 pm, just before the end of each stage of the Camino de Santiago.
During the daily stage we recommend carrying a small backpack with the essentials for the hike.
Many of our itineraries, when we organise the different variants of the Way, include a On-road assistance vehicle in case of emergency (injury or any physical incident that prevents you from finishing the stage). The assistance vehicle will be available once you are on foot, and will be used exclusively for this purpose.
In those routes where we do not offer this service, you will always have an assistance phone number at your disposal in case you have any emergency or doubt en route.
You will never be alone pilgrim!
It is the document that certifies, by means of stamps stamped in the different boxes it has, that the Pilgrim’s Way is being followed, through the successive places through which the pilgrim is heading to Santiago de Compostela. Its presentation will be essential when obtaining “La Compostela”. It can be obtained through the Associations of Friends of the Camino, some hostels, etc. If you book the route with viajes Mundiplus we will give you the credential, which you will receive upon arrival at the first accommodation.
COMPOSTELA AND DISTANCE CERTIFICATE
The Compostela is the document that has been issued, for centuries, to the pilgrim who has made the Camino de Santiago, for religious or faith reasons. At present, proof must be provided of having walked the The Way of Saint James from Sarria which represents a walk of at least “The Last 100 Kms to Santiago de Compostela”, or the last 200 Kms, if done by bicycle. You can also get the Distance certificate which indicates the exact place from where you started your journey on the Camino de Santiago.
These certificates are issued at the Pilgrim’s Office, next to the Cathedral, on presentation of the Pilgrim’s Credential.

LA COMPOSTELA AND THE DISTANCE CERTIFICATE
The cancellation insurance for your Camino de Santiago trip is an optional service, which each pilgrim must expressly request to be contracted. In case of cancellation of the trip, the client must inform the insurance company directly to proceed with the necessary procedures.
The Camino de Santiago is perfectly signposted with numerous and different signs, such as yellow arrows – mainly – kilometer posts, stones, etc.
Additionally, as you pass through various towns, you will always find the locals ready and willing to help if needed. Even on special occasions, you can follow the numerous groups of pilgrims along the route.
